Eight steps to build a custom field service app

  1. Ride along and document the real workflow. Tepia’s Discovery phase includes user interviews with dispatchers, technicians and office staff plus a system investigation of your current platform.
  2. Decide what stays on your existing platform. Many clients keep accounting in QuickBooks or keep ServiceTitan for billing while moving the technician experience to a custom app. Tepia’s third party integration review maps which records flow where.
  3. Define the data model. Customers, locations, equipment, work orders, tasks, parts, time entries, photos, signatures and invoices. Getting this right up front avoids painful migrations later.
  4. Design for offline first. Technicians work in basements, mechanical rooms and rural areas. Tepia builds the mobile app to store jobs locally and sync when a connection returns, with conflict rules agreed during design.
  5. Each module is testable on its own.

How Tepia approaches custom field service app development

It produces an Investigation Summary of your current stack, an Interview Summary from dispatchers and technicians, and User Stories for the tech app and the dispatch portal.
