Mobile devices generate roughly 60 percent of global website traffic, according to Statista's mobile traffic reports.
Roughly 25% of consumers say they would pay a premium for same day delivery, per McKinsey consumer research.
Statista reports that ecommerce now makes up roughly 20% of global retail sales, and deliveries grow with it.
If you run a delivery business with your own drivers, the apps built for gig platforms do not fit you. They are designed for a marketplace that owns neither the driver nor the customer. You own both, and your software should reflect that: your branding on the customer’s phone, your rules for how drivers are assigned, and your data on every delivery.
Tepia builds custom delivery apps for grocers, meal and catering companies, pharmacies, furniture and appliance retailers, florists, auto parts distributors, and regional couriers. The Mother’s Nutritional Center app, MNC Go, is a grocery ordering app Tepia built to streamline orders for a grocery chain, and it follows the same pattern described here.
App builders that promise a delivery app in a day produce a template with your logo. They break the moment you need a delivery window that depends on zone, a substitution flow, or an integration with your inventory system. The step by step version is at how to build a delivery app.
A delivery product is three apps that share one backend. Tepia designs them together so the state of an order is identical on every screen at every moment.
| Surface | Users | Core features Tepia builds | Platform |
|---|---|---|---|
| Customer app | Your buyers | Catalog or menu, cart, delivery windows by zone, saved addresses and payment methods, live tracking map, ETA push notifications, tipping, reorder, ratings | iOS and Android, optional web ordering |
| Driver app | Employees or contracted drivers | Shift start, assigned route in stop order, navigation handoff, proof of delivery (photo, signature, PIN), failed delivery reasons, cash or card collection, earnings or hours summary | iOS and Android, offline first |
| Dispatcher portal | Operations staff | Order board by status, zone and window capacity, batch and route building, driver map, reassignment, exceptions, customer support view, reporting | Web (React) |
Behind all three, Tepia builds a Node.js or .NET backend on PostgreSQL, hosted on AWS, Azure or GCP, with REST or GraphQL APIs so your website, POS or warehouse system can create and read orders too. Push notifications go through Firebase, SMS through Twilio, and payments through Stripe or Square with tokenized cards.
Proof of delivery. Tepia builds proof of delivery as a configurable step: photo of the package at the door, a signature for high value or age restricted items, a PIN the customer reads to the driver, or a geofence confirmation for contactless drops. The proof is stored on the order with a timestamp and location and is visible to your support team when a customer disputes a delivery. For age restricted goods, the driver app records the ID check before the order can close.
Routing. For most regional operations, Tepia builds route ordering using a mapping API: the dispatcher groups orders into a route by zone and window, and the system orders the stops to reduce drive time, respecting time windows and vehicle capacity. Full route optimization across a fleet with dynamic reassignment is an enterprise feature and is described on the last mile delivery software page.
Exceptions. The value of a custom system shows up when something goes wrong. Tepia builds explicit flows for failed deliveries (not home, wrong address, refused), partial deliveries, substitutions approved by the customer in the app, returns picked up on the next route, and driver no shows that require a batch to be reassigned. Each exception has a status, a notification and a report.
Tepia describes its work as apps engineered for retention, and in delivery the retention levers are specific. The first is reliability of the promise: a window that holds and an ETA that updates. The second is friction removed from the second order: saved addresses, saved payment, a reorder button on the last order, and push notifications that are useful rather than promotional.
Tepia typically builds a loyalty or subscription layer once the core is stable: a weekly standing order for a grocer, a points balance for a restaurant group, or free delivery over a threshold for a retailer. Analytics events are instrumented from day one so you can see the reorder rate, the time between orders and the window fill rate by zone, and Tepia’s app evolution service reviews those numbers with you after launch.
Tepia clients report about 90% customer retention, and for delivery businesses the mechanism is usually the same: the customer trusts the window and the reorder takes ten seconds.
Tepia builds delivery products through its six phase process. The details that matter for delivery are noted under each phase.
