Mobile devices generate roughly 60 percent of global website traffic, according to Statista's mobile traffic reports.
About one in four installed apps is opened a single time and then abandoned, according to Localytics retention research.
Most software projects miss their original timeline or scope, according to long running Standish Group surveys.
Outsourcing has a reputation problem it earned. Companies hand a build to a firm twelve time zones away, get a rotating cast of engineers, wait overnight for every answer, and discover at the end that the code quality and the IP paperwork are both uncertain. The alternative is not always hiring in house. It is choosing a partner whose model removes those specific risks.
Tepia’s model is built for US buyers. Project managers, design leadership and engineering leadership are US based, across offices in Costa Mesa, Tampa, Pittsburgh, Austin, Las Vegas and Kansas City. Engineers are individually sourced from a global talent pool, chosen person by person for the project rather than pulled from a bench, and they work in US overlapping hours.
Tepia has run this way for thirteen years, and the Participant Media Director of IT described the result: “If I could build an in-house team, it would be exactly like them.” That is the standard for outsourcing done well: a team that behaves like yours.
Buyers asking for the best companies to outsource app development to are usually comparing four models without naming them. The table lays them out the way Tepia explains it on a first call.
Tepia is not the cheapest line on that table and does not try to be. For a deeper treatment of the time zone question, see nearshore versus offshore development, and for the freelancer question, agency versus freelancer.
The paperwork matters as much as the code. Tepia’s standard terms cover what a US company’s counsel will look for, and Tepia encourages you to ask any vendor the same questions.
Tepia does not take equity in lieu of fees and does not lock clients in with proprietary platforms. The product you pay for is yours to run, host and extend with any team.
Outsourcing fails quietly when communication is irregular. Tepia’s cadence is set in the first week and holds for the length of the project.
You have one assigned project manager who is your point of contact and is reachable during US business hours, with same day responses. A shared backlog (Tepia works in your tooling or its own, whichever you prefer) shows what is in progress, what is next and what is blocked. Weekly demo calls show working software rather than status slides, and you see the app on a real device from the first Alpha build onward. Design reviews happen on a shared board where your team comments directly on wireframes and sample designs.
Engineers work in US overlapping hours, so a bug found in the morning is usually looked at the same day. Leadership across design and engineering reviews the work before it reaches you. Tepia’s clients describe this as being nurtured rather than managed; as the PalPilot analyst said, “In every stage of our web development project, Tepia was there to nurture and guide our team.”
Every outsourced build at Tepia follows the same six phase process, which is what gives a distributed team its structure. Discovery includes a system investigation of anything you already have, user interviews with your customers or staff, and a third party integration review. Deliverables are an Investigation Summary, an Interview Summary and User Stories, which become the contract scope. Discovery is shorter and cheaper when you arrive with designs or a written spec.
Design runs a design questionnaire, moodboards, a style guide, detailed wireframes and sample designs, all reviewed with your team before development. Development and Testing runs on Alpha and Beta schedules with a written test plan covering functional, user acceptance and non functional testing, and you receive builds on your own devices throughout.
Training is delivered in person or remote using user story scenarios, which matters when the app is for your staff or your admins. Launch includes data migration, the transition from any old system, App Store and Google Play submission, and Tepia support reps on the rollout. The full process is at tepia.co/process.
