Human of Tepia | Brianna

It’s been a minute since we’ve written about one of our team members, and we wanted to fix that. For our first Humans of Tepia for 2023, here’s Brianna, a dedicated project manager with a lot of personal experience in software development that really bridges the gap between what clients want and what’s possible.

  1. What’s your earliest tech memory?

Hard to say! I grew up with tech. I remember playing with a Leapfrog Leapster before I could even ‘remember’ and then getting a Gameboy Advance for my birthday. I have been a complete nerd since.

  1. What’s your day-to-day like?

A lot of meetings. Internal meetings with my team and client meetings. I absolutely love it. I get the privilege to talk to some really creative and talented individuals and learn about all different kinds of industries.

  1. Developers are superstitious, and so are engineers. Do you have a favourite computer superstition or ritual that probably doesn’t work – but you still do it anyway?

I am not sure if this counts but I am a hard believer that hanging brackets in a loop is the ‘correct’ format. This is completely my opinion but it is just the right opinion (joking of course). What I mean is:

Hanging semicolon:

while(true)

{

call function;

}

Versus the ‘wrong’ way:

while(true) {

call function;

}

  1. How did you end up working at Tepia?

A close friend of mine, Mathew Desjardins, was working with Tepia and recommended me to them. After an interview with Dustin and hearing about all of the different projects Tepia works on, I was sold. I really love learning and working at Tepia Co because it gives me so many opportunities for learning and growth.

  1. What’s your favourite project that you’ve worked on so far?

This is a tough one, but I think as of right now, I would have to say Ryan’s Permit Services. This was a Web Application for project management and it made me laugh that I was a project manager working on a project management system. This was also my first full lead project and it solidified my passion in my position. It was such an enjoyable experience working with the client from the first kick off meeting, learning the vision, and guiding it through to a completed system that is now in use.

  1. What’s the office culture like?

While all virtual of course, I have a real connection with my team. We share our victories and failures with each other and everyone is very understanding and supportive of one another. I have never experienced an environment where I can go directly to my CEO for advice or support. Honesty is a very strong value in our culture. I am thankful that I have had the opportunity to meet a couple of my coworkers in person and I look forward to meeting more of them later this year.

  1. What’s your ultimate dream-big project – the one you’re working towards, the one that’ll blow all the other projects out of the water?

My VR ‘project’! I put project in quotes because I want to add to the pool of research and knowledge of this technology. I believe this is the next medium and I want to challenge the academic limits of this technology. I do not have a specific end goal in mind, rather, I have a pursuit of life long research. Virtual Reality is the epitome of my interests, computer science and psychology. I love thinking about technology in relation to how it affects the user, psychologically, physically, emotionally, ect. I want to have a positive impact on the world and individuals’ quality of experience.
